The Bag Of Peas

Roland Hill, a famous preacher of the nineteenth century, was once walking down a country lane when he noticed a most unusual sight. He saw a drove of pigs following a man. Every turn the man took, whether to the left or to the right, the pigs eagerly followed. He began to walk behind this man to see how this was possible for pigs follow no one. The man and the pigs began approaching the slaughter house, and this made Roland Hill even more astonished. He went up to the man and asked him how he was able to lead these pigs even to the slaughter house where they would meet their death. The man replied that it was easy. He then pulled out a bag of peas from his pocket. "I just throw a few behind me, and the pigs greedily run after them." Roland Hill saw how completely deceived they were until it was too late and he was reminded of how Satan deceives so many in the world today.

Satan has many "Peas" to lure men to their eternal doom. There is the "P" of pleasure, there is also the "P" of prosperity and riches, and for some the "P" of power and fame. All these deceive those who pursue them, while eternity lies ahead and they are not prepared to meet God.

Reader, if you are such, pause for a moment to think. Where is your life heading to? Where will you spend eternity? Which "Pea" is Satan using to deceive you?

The Lord Jesus said "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" (Mark 8:36). Your soul is precious to God. Two thousand years ago, in love for you, He sent His Son to die. On Calvary’s Cross, Christ suffered the judgment of a holy God and paid the price for sin. On the third day He rose again and this means that He is alive today and able to save all who repent and come to God through Him. With Christ as your Saviour you will be on the narrow way that leads to life. Without Him, you are on the broad way to destruction. Call upon Him now!
