The Big News

AT 10:35 a.m. on the 17th of December 1903, at an isolated beach in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, Orville and Wilbur Wright, became the first men ever to build and fly a powered aeroplane. Orville piloted the first flight and was aloft for twelve seconds, covering 120 feet. The age of the aeroplane had begun!
They sent a telegram back home informing their father of their success. It told him of the flight and that he should inform the press. It closed with a message that they would be home for Christmas.
The family informed the newspapers but some were not only skeptical but others got the story wrong. One editor thought the telegram was informing him that the brothers would be home for Christmas which he thought was a nice thing. He missed the big story that man had actually flown!
Every Christmas many will be thinking of family, friends, and getting together to have a good time but will miss the greatest story ever told. Listen to the words of the Angel to the Shepherds the night when Jesus was born,
"And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord." (Luke 2v10,11)
It was a night of good news for a world where bad news has been common since man chose to sin against God. It was good news for all people, whatever their race, colour or religion, for all are guilty sinners before God. It was news of a Saviour’s birth, One who would deal with the problem of sin by the work on the cross, and would completely save all who come to God by Him.
Reader, this is the story you need to hear and believe. Will you miss it again this Christmas?
