(5) THE SONG OF THE FREE
Exodus ch. 15 1 to 21. Meter. 8.6.8.6.
(1).When Israel's freed triumphant crowd,
Had crossed the great Red Sea,
They sang the praise of their great God,
With thanks, exultingly.
(2).The horse and rider, God had thrown,
Into the Red Sea's deep,
Jehovah's mighty arm was shown,
His triumph. full, complete.
(3).What great relief, and thankfulness,
The nation now expressed,
To taste such joy, such blessedness;
No more to be oppressed.
(4).The cruel lash, of tyrant's whip,
They never more would feel,
Nor curse, nor threat from brutal lip,
No pain from wound or weal.,
(5).The tyranny of Pharaoh's reign,
The gross indignity,
Through God's great pow'r forever gone,
Now, glorious liberty.
(6).Like them, our souls are also freed,
From greater slavery,
The slavery of lust, and greed,
From Satan's tyranny.
(7).A tyrant worse than Pharaoh far,
Who's held, not only me,
But our whole race, where e'er they are,
In sin and misery.
(8).The drunkard in his vomit lies,
The harlot, in her shame,
All slaves in wretched misery,
Consumed with guilt and blame.
(9).The slaves of sin we too have been,
Have groaned in misery,
Have felt the sting, the guilt, the pain,
Have longed for liberty.
(10).The tyrant, Satan's been destroyed,
Not in the deep Red Sea,
But at the place where Jesus died,
At awful Calvary.
(11).A greater victory He won
When hanging on the tree,
He cried in triumph, "It is done",
And died in agony.
(12).So now we're free, oh let us sing,
His glory and His praise,
Our worship, adoration bring
To Him through all our days.
(13).Oh dear Lord Jesus, gladly now,
We praise, we worship Thee,
Who on the cross, Thy head did bow,
And died to set us free!
